Mike Pfotenhauer created Osprey bags in 1974 in California during outdoors’ golden era, when many of today’s big brands were fledgling businesses turning their passion into livelihoods. A gifted and technically minded outdoorsman he started to develop many of the standards in packs now widely accepted as fundamental, first as specialist one-offs for customers before developing slowly into the leading brand it is today.
Often associated with that big pack you bought from the local outdoor shop to go backpacking, their past masters at making sturdy ultra-comfortable packs but now they’re also realising new product with a more considered approach to both the environment and modern outdoor tastes.
